

Continental Airlines - April 2008-present
In April 2008 we were invited to sit in on the Northwest Airlines Customer Advisory Board Meeting in Detroit with delegates from Continental Airlines as a launching point to start a Customer Advisory Board for Continental. CK Consulting is assisting Continental Airlines in recruiting, interviewing, and organizing initial meetings of this board and has been named lead advisors for research, development, and general supervision of the needs of the board. Our goals are to identify problems within the airline industry as pertain to travelers with disabilities and advise Continental on changes to current policies and procedures.
Old Town Hot Springs - June 2007
In November 2006 voters approved the expansion and redesign of the hot pool and water slide areas of this historic site. CK Consulting was asked to do a review of the plans to make sure that the project was in line with ADA building codes and requirements. We did a comprehensive review of the construction documents and made recommendations for changes and improvements to possible accessibility issues and barriers. Improvements to access include:
- Automatic pool lifts for entry and exit from the pools and tubs
- New ramps for full access to goods and services
- Elevator access to all facilities
WENK Associates - January 2007
WENK Associates will be handling a multi-million dollar redevelopment of the Steamboat Base Area from April 2007 through November 2008. This enormous project is an undertaking of several local entities and considered to be long overdue. CK Consulting was hired to do a review of the plans to make sure that the project was in line with ADA building codes and requirements. We did a comprehensive review of the construction documents and made recommendations for changes and improvements to possible accessibility issues and barriers. Improvements to access include:
- Improved paths and ease of travel throughout the base area
- Improved access to public transportation
- Improved access from base area to hotels and condos
- Improved access from base area to Mt Village shopping and dining areas
AXS Vail Valley - August 2006 to Present
In July 2006, a new Non-Profit organization was launched in the Eagle Valley in Colorado. The Eagle Valley includes world-renowned ski resorts Vail and Beaver Creek. This Non-Profit was started in order to encourage the growth and expansion of recreation programs and services in the Eagle Valley for people with disabilities. We were hired to facilitate this process and to consult with the executive director in order to increase accessibility and awareness throughout the valley.

Strawberry Park Schools (Steamboat Springs, CO) - August 2006
There are currently several children with disabilities in the Steamboat community that will be entering the school systems in the next few years. CK Consulting was hired in order to assess current accessibility and to identify and remove possible barriers before these children start their schooling.
Our Objectives:
- To assess the current level of accessibility for students with disabilities in the Strawberry Park Elementary and Middle Schools and to report findings to the school administration.
- To recommend viable solutions to current accessibility barriers to the school administration.

Colorado Scenic & Historic Byways - May 2006 to November 2007
In May 2006 we started on this project thanks to a grant obtained through National & Historic Scenic Byways and Housing & Urban Development (HUD). The goal of this project is to increase tourism along Colorado's designated scenic byways. One of the steps to reach this goal is to improve accessibility in order to attract travelers with disabilities. The ultimate goal of CK Consulting is to teach this workshop all over the country to improve accessibility along all of our Nation's Scenic & Historic Byways.
Our Job:
- Create an accessibility assessment tool
- Test in on four of the byways
- Teach a workshop to show other byways coordinators how to use the tool
The Results:
- We created a 4-star rating system based on basic accessibility needs
- We road tested the tool on four byways across Colorado and produced an accessibility chart
- Created & implemented workshop to show other byways coordinators how to use the tool
Johnson Outdoors Inc. ( Eureka Tents) - January to December 2006
In January 2006 CK Consulting accepted a contact with the Eureka Tent Division of Johnson Outdoors to assist in research and marketing development for the Freedom Tent, the first tent designed and built specifically for wheelchair users. CK Consulting was responsible for testing, displaying and promoting the product at disability related expositions, as well as media relations, and for developing new marketing strategies to help promotion and sales of the product.
City of Steamboat Springs Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Department -
April 2005
In 2005 the City of Steamboat Springs received grant monies for parks and open spaces improvements including accessible fishing piers, boat ramps, accessible routes of travel, and access ramps for five local parks and open spaces. CK Consulting was hired to review plans and make recommendations, as well as for follow up on completed projects. Improvements to these parks include:
- Brand new accessible fishing pier at Fetcher Pond
- New concrete access path at west end of Fetcher Pond
- New, graded and resurfaced boat access points at River Creek Park
Cultural & Heritage Tourism Initiative (Routt, Moffett, Rio Blanco Counties) - March 2005
This initiative was started through state and federal grant monies in order to bring together 10 communities in three Colorado counties to address concerns about spreading tourism dollars equally to all communities. Inevitable a few of the communities benefited substantially more than others due to available attractions and facilities. CK Consulting did some pro bono work here to assist the surrounding towns in figuring out how to attract potential tourists through their historic and cultural qualities. Here's what we did:
- Gave presentation on the growing adaptive travel market to show the importance of improving accessibility in their communities
- Acted as accessibility expert and advocate for this initiative
Sheraton Steamboat Resort & Conference Center - March 2005
The Sheraton Steamboat Resort is a long standing fixture at the Steamboat base area and the only full service ski-in/ski-out hotel on the slopes. CK Consulting was hired to do a full accessibility study of all building grounds and public facilities from both a guest and employee standpoint. We conducted a comprehensive study and reported to the General Manager on needs for improvements and helped implement action plan for future improvements. Ongoing and future improvements include:
- Additional roll-in shower units and padded shower chairs for guests in wheelchairs
- Lower beds for guest with mobility issues
- Improved signage and parking
- Improved access to pool facilities including an access lift
Steamboat Springs Health & Recreation Association - February 2005
After joining this association as a member to use the workout facilities CK Consulting was hired to complete an accessibility study of the building and facilities. We conducted a comprehensive study and made recommendations for improving accessibility. Some improvements include:
- Easier access to facilities through main entrance including adjustment of automatic door closers and replacement of handles
- Internal ramps for better access to weight rooms and exercise equipment
- Improved access to member locker rooms and showers
Colorado State Tourism Office (CTO) - January 2005
At the annual board meeting for all state tourism officials and board representatives CK Consulting gave a presentation, "Travelers with Disabilities, The Untapped Market," to entire board of directors, and local and state tourism officials emphasizing the rapidly growing adaptive travel market and the importance of marketing to these travelers.
- This presentation resulted in consultations with two firms that work with the CTO, Miles Media and PRACO, on upcoming publicity, articles, and proposals to the state government.
Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation - July 2003 - December 2004
Since July 2003 CK Consulting has been busy working with the local ski area to make sure that a comprehensive plan is in place to bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act over the next several years. Current improvements include:
- New ramps and curb cuts
- New wheelchairs for guest use
- Better snow removal efforts
- Better access to information and services
- A brand new accessible gondola car
- Wheelchair accessible shuttle from the Meadows Lot
- More parking
- Better signage directing people with disabilities to accessible travel routes and good and services in and around Gondola Square
City of Steamboat Springs Parks & Recreation Dept - September 2004 to Present
Since September 2004 CK Consulting has been helping the city address accessibility issues with its twenty one parks and open spaces to assure equal access to public goods and services for people with disabilities, as well as ongoing snow removal problems. Ongoing and future improvements include:
- Accessible river access points
- Improved access to fishing
- ADA approved picnic tables and sites
- Accessible port-o-lets
- Improved trail surfaces and gradients
- Better access to gazebos and grill sites
- Improved parking with compliant, accessible routes of travel
- Better signage
Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association - August 2004 to January 2005
CK Consulting was hired to research local businesses and to provide accessibility information for the Steamboat Springs visitors guide and the Restaurant Association's Dining guide to better assist those with disabilities in finding accessible places to eat, sleep, and recreate. We then set up accessibility information section at the Chamber's information center and trained chamber employees to handle needs and requests of travelers with disabilities
