PROJECTS

For the past 10 years CK Consulting has worked on many projects in Colorado and around the country and continues to be a leader in the world of Accessibility, ADA Interpretation, and
Disability Travel & Tourism

Yampa Valley Regional Airport

Hayden, CO
As a recipient of grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (the “FAA”), Routt County is subject to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Part 27 of Title 49 of the Code of Federal  Regulations.  As a governmental entity, the County is also subject to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”).

The County is also required to conduct a periodic review (every 3 years) and updating of the self-evaluation of the Airport facilities and programs. CK Consulting was hired in 2008, 2013, & 2016 to conduct a physical inspection of the passenger terminal, the Airport offices now located in what originally was the commuter terminal and other portions of the Airport open to the public to make sure they are in compliance with the Rehabilitation Act, 27 CFR 49, and the ADA.

Continental & United Airlines

Houston, TX & Chicago, IL
In April 2008 we were invited to sit in on the Northwest Airlines Customer Advisory Board Meeting in Detroit with delegates from Continental Airlines as a launching point to start the Customers with Disabilities Advisory Board for Continental. CK Consulting assisted Continental Airlines in recruiting, interviewing, and organizing initial meetings of this board and was named lead adviser for research, development, and general supervision of the needs of the board.  In 2010 when United Airlines merged with Continental, CK Consulting was instrumental in ensuring this important work continued and helped to form the new Disability Travel Advisory Board.   The goals of both boards were to make air travel easier, safer, and more desirable for travelers with disabilities by identifying problems within the airline industry and advising the Airlines on changes and improvements to current policies and procedures.

Colorado Scenic & Historic Byways
In May 2006 we started on this project thanks to a grant obtained through National & Historic Scenic Byways and Housing & Urban Development (HUD). The goal of this project is to increase tourism along Colorado's designated scenic byways. One of the steps to reach this goal is to improve accessibility in order to attract travelers with disabilities. The ultimate goal of CK Consulting is to teach this workshop all over the country to improve accessibility along all of our Nation's Scenic & Historic Byways. Our Job:
  • Create an accessibility assessment tool
  • Test in on four of the byways
  • Teach a workshop to show other byways coordinators how to use the tool
The Results:
  • We created a 4-star rating system based on basic accessibility needs
  • We road tested the tool on four byways across Colorado and produced an accessibility chart
  • Created & implemented workshop to show other byways coordinators how to use the tool
